Many people when they see a job that interests them, quickly send in a CV they have sitting on their laptop and which hasn’t seen much of an update for some time. For most, this never works, and here’s why.
The main reason is you have subliminally said to the employer ‘here’s what I can do’ rather than ‘here’s what I can do FOR YOU’. They have 6-10 seconds to look over your application and if doesn’t immediately sing to them, it can be a bit of a lost leader.
The employer is always in pole position when they first advertise a position. That position fluctuates if they like what they read on the CV and covering email and it will fluctuate more throughout the interview process.
Your job, aside from submitting your application, is to make every employer feel they are your employer of choice, regardless of the number of applications you have going on. So, how do you do that?
Job Seekers, here’s an overview of the 5 step process you need to adopt each and every time. Each of these points is a blog post in itself, but for now, I’ll leave you with the overview.
I have coached many people over many years who miss out all 5 steps, or at least 4 of them. It always makes me think of the quote “if you want something badly enough, you’ll find a way – if you don’t, you’ll find an excuse!”
What’s your excuse for not wanting someone to hold your hand throughout these 5 steps until you walk it on your own?
